Introduction:
Today, we’re going to be showing you how to use Google Maps to measure the perimeter of your property or field so that you can use that with the fencing calculator on Cashmans.com.
Step-by-Step Guide:
- Open Google Maps and search for your address.
- Switch to satellite view by clicking on the satellite view option in the bottom left-hand corner.
- Zoom in and locate the area you want to measure.
- Click to drop a pin on the starting point of the perimeter.
- Right-click on the pin and select “Measure Distance.”
- Move to the next corner of the property and click to create a measuring line between the points.
- Continue clicking around the perimeter of the property, following its shape.
- Once you reach the starting point, click on the first pin you dropped to complete the perimeter measurement.
- Note the total distance shown (in feet) at the bottom of the screen. ( e.g., 4965.27 ).
Using the Fencing Calculator on Cashmans.com:
- Visit Cashmans.com and navigate to the calculators page by clicking the calculator icon in the header.
- Select the wood fence calculator.
- In the 1st field, enter the total distance you obtained from Google Maps ( e.g., 4965.27 ).
- in the 2nd field, enter the total number of rails you want on your fence ( e.g., 3 )
- The calculator will then display the number of posts and rail boards needed for your fence.
- For example, you may need 621 posts and 931 rail boards for a property with a perimeter of 4965 feet.
- You can click on the product links below the calculator to order the required materials or contact Cashmans for assistance.
Conclusion: By following these steps, you can get a good estimate of the perimeter of your property using Google Maps, and then use that information with the fencing calculator to determine the number of posts and rail boards needed for your fencing project.
